Egg Kaleidoscope, blue garden flowers Egg kaleidoscope, cool blue garden.
This one is my very first egg kaleidoscope ever.
Once I got the kit, I realized the egg shape is not part of it. After doing a little research on how other clay artists use these I learned that they all buy an egg shape WOOD blank and simply cover that.

Well not me. I think those egg blanks are not really egg shaped. They tend to be fat in the center and eggs are more, well egg shaped.
So.... I started building up layer upon layer of clay around the tube core. Baking multiple times to be sure the clay is cured as I go. Eventually I was able to form my own egg shape and finally cover that with decorative cane slices. This is all hand formed. Not turning, no molds or forms.
The end result is a nice heavy piece. Though this "egg" is just a little smaller than a goose egg, its got some weight to it.

I wish I could get a good picture of the chamber, but it's simply too small. (I'm working on that problem for future eggs.)
Just know that I selected gems that match the design as much as possible.
